Heretical Thoughts on the Dark Eldar

So, by now many people have had the chance to play against the Dark Eldar and have had a chance to feel out the new release. So our dark brethren need to be looked at from a Heretical point of view.

First off, I have to say the Dark Eldar need to make up their mind. They are too bad for the Eldar but not bad enough to just start worshipping the dark Gods, or are they. Lets look at their background as well as some of their independant characters.

Background wise, the Dark Eldar capture slaves to sacrifice to prevent themselves from falling to Slaanesh. Did I miss something here? I mean does this sound like Khorne to anyone. I mean blood for the blood god is always good, but blood to prevent a fall to Slaanesh seems to make no sense. Are we not worshipping Khorne in this case? Lets be realistic, they might not openly worship the 4 powers, but they might as well. My suggestion, just start worshipping one of the 4. Stop sacrificing your slaves and fall to Slaanesh. Allow your souls to be taken and kill, maim, enjoy the pleasures of worship. If you don't want to worship slaanesh fine, Khorne does not like Slaanesh as it is and I am sure you will be embraced with chainaxes and blood. Lets see, they already have the high initiative of Slaanesh. They can now obtain FNP by inflicting pain - sound like Nurgle anyone. We can get furious charge by inflicting pain - wait, sounds like Khorne. Fall to Chaos, worship us and just make up your mind.

To start with for independant characters, we have Fabius Bile, oops, I mean Urien Rakarth. Apparently, the Dark Eldar like messing with different body parts, drugs and everything else that can make their characters better. Does this sound like a familiar chaos guy that was referenced to start? The similarities are easy for this one though their reasons are slightly different for why they do it, they are essentially the same character.

Next on the list we have Lucius and Lelith. Both great in close combat and are the best at one on one combat whether gladiatorial or training arenas, one actually worships Slaanesh while the other supposedly does not. Lelith is dressed in her best bondage outfit for the party and seems to fit in well with a Slaanesh themed army. Lelith really is what Lucius should be when you look at their stats. After all, he is supposed to be the best in CC that the Emperors Children have to offer.

All I can say is don't sit on the fence, just fall off it and join us.

Heretical Thoughts

As a new part of our blog, we have decided to start posting more commentary and thoughts as we are looking to drive more discussion on the blog. So you will see a lot of these articles start popping up in the near future. Many of you have commented you would like to see articles that you can comment on and we are looking to make this blog more of a community rather than a tournament announcement setting, though you will still see that occurring as well. Therefore, in starting the series of articles, I think the picture here just about says it all and we are going to talk about the Wasting husk that is the immortal emperor of mankind.

As everyone is aware, the emperor is essentially a lifeless body with some psychic awareness left. He has been this way for many years and during this time, living people have committed many atrocities in his name. But in order to understand this, we need to look at what we do know of the emperor.
  1. The emperor is an ego maniac. He pretends to be a god by abolishing all other religions. He then proceeds with creating genetic beings from scratch in the name of pursuing conquest of the galaxy though there are many other lifeforms present. Unless you kneel to the emperor, you are a heretic. Rather narrow view of the whole situation. What about the other Xenos out there. Can't we all just get along?

  2. He is supposedly the most powerful psychic that ever lived, yet could not foresee his own demise or the entire corruption of Horus and others? He is a strong psychic, but not strong enough to stand against the chaos gods and live or at least become rotting shell.

  3. Since his internment into the Golden Throne, many atrocities have been committed in his name all for the sake and betterment of mankind. Entire populations are subjugated and bent to imperial will. Those people are mandated to work their entire lives and not speak against the governing body and the "holy" emperor. If this occurs, his forces are unleashed upon the world in his name to reclaim the world and show the heretics the righteous cause. Mankind are slaves to the imperial warmachine and as such have no rights other than to be good and we might respond to your distress call for aid when someone attacks you though it will probably be way to late. However, don't worry, we will reclaim the planet and repopulate it later in the God-Emperors Name.
Those are a few brief reasons as to why the False Emperor is nothing compared to the Gods of Chaos. Here are a few reasons to swell the ranks of Chaos further.

  1. How many parties have you heard of the Imperium having? Slaanesh has music, art, drugs and many other baseless perversions to offer. We won't tell your dad about it either.

  2. Your not going to die by following Nurgle. Yes you might smell a bit, pieces might fall off, but short of finding yourself on the wrong end of a gun, the Plaguefather will guide you through any diseases you might get.

  3. For those of you are are mad at the world, Khorne offers hope and a way to vent your rage. What better way to control your anger, hatred and thirst for blood by killing the imperial lapdogs in their structured societies.

  4. For all of those who know it all and like to engage in intellectual discussions while looking for magical artifacts we have Tzeentch. After all, whats better than grabbing a few minions of lesser intellect than yourself and using them to fight your battles for you while gallivanting around the Galaxy looking for mystical items. These guys are the true Knights of the Grail, dust for thousands of years and still going strong.
So rather than worship one pathetic mortal, why not choose 4 gods. If you can't choose just one, then just throw off the yoke of oppression and join us for some wanton mayhem and good times. Excess, Disease, Blood and Magic are included for only the price of the remainder of your life.

Heresy (Its good for the mind and body)

It's nice to start projects early this time around, I wonder what's going to come out of this:

The Fight for Tarus Week Four

Loyalist and Renegade alike were continuing to fight for drop site Omega. Amazingly neither was giving any ground. The loyalist still have a majority of the spaceport and some reserves from thunderhawk transporters were landing men and munitions.

The totals were calculated Wednesday and for those that played the scenario the results were as follows:

Loyalists: 4 wins
Renegades: 4 wins

Since there was no clear winner, the battle for Drop Site Omega continues this week.

Only one hex changed hands. Looks like that stubborn bonus really came in handy for the Loyalists.

Summary Week Four:
Loyalists: 9 wins

Renegade: 9 wins, 1 massacres

On November 1st the campaign game army lists will move to 1000 points. Please note we will be discontinuing the bonus/penalty for hexes beyond DMZ.

Thursday, October 21, 2010

The Fight for Tarus Week Two & Three

Impossible!  Renegade units from multiple sectors have made advances dangerously close to drop site omega, whats more disturbing is the fact that the desecration's of the loyalist dead have drawn the gaze of Khorne, blood storms have been raging along the front lines...

Renegade forces, cut off from their resources by the harsh hand of Lord gateman have pushed to the drop site, scavenging and raiding for supplies.

Summary Week Two:
Loyalists: 7 wins, 1 massacres
Renegade: 15 wins, 10 massacres

Week three we see the loyalists digging in for a protracted siege, this week will determine the fate of dropsite Omega...

Summary Week Three:

Loyalists: 4 wins, 1 massacres
Renegade: 6 wins, 1 massacres

The Fight for Tarus Continues...

Governor Gateman sipped his Amasec quietly as the first skirmish reports were coming across from the hive Logis.

Overeager rebel units, to earn glory in the name of their petty gods, had thrown themselves over their defenses and into the oncoming loyalists.  Even more suprising some of them were holding ground just miles from the drop sites.

This is not how things were to be, the Angel told them to bleed the Imperium dry while his brethren marshaled their forces.  He stopped a moment to draft a communique to his commanders stating that any units beyond the primary defense lines be cut off from supplies..  yes... That will do...  Their "sacrifice" would have appeased the Angel.

As more reports came to the desk of the Governors office the picture became more clear, while the overeager forces of Tarus were attempting to push towards the dropsites the loyalists were gaining ground, albeit slowly and with numerous casualities.  The "No Mans Land' between the defence walls and the drop-sites were becoming charnel pits choked with the loyalist dead...

Summary:
Loyalists: 8 wins, 2 massacres
Renegade: 9 wins, 5 massacres

Loyalists, this is your target, Pro Imperator!

The Rebellion of Tarus IV

Snake Eyes Gaming presents
The Rebellion of Tarus IV:
A Warhammer 40,000 Escalation Campaign hosted by Gatehouse Games

Tarus IV is a Departmento Munitorum staging world. A vast network of storage and processing facilities cover the planet’s surface. Due to its proximity to the Cadian gate Tarus IV’s processing and staging facilities are protected by vast defense lines and nearly impregnable security networks. Tarus IV survived many assaults over the millennia with the most recent occurring during the13th Black Crusade.
Now something sinister has taken root on Tarus IV and the planet has gone into full scale rebellion.

The battle for Tarus IV will occur over a four month period. Each month the quantity of points used for campaign battles increases as follows:
October – 600 points
November – 1000 points
December – 1400 points
January – 1800 points

Arkham Insanity Results

The results from the Arkham Insanity Tournament are in. First off, thanks to all who came out and played and thanks to Arkham for allowing us to run the tournament. On to the results:

Aaron - Pedro Marines - 50 pts - 1st Place
Ben - Tyranids - 45 pts - 2nd Place
Ron - Blood Pact Guard - 39 pts 3rd Place

And for the coveted Snake Eyes Award and a new Brick of Dice:

Jason and his Blood Angels

For some reason, the both Blood Angels players in this tournament ended up with horrible dice rolling throughout the day and ended up on the last table. The only thing we have been able to determine is that neither of their dice were sparkly enough to support their armies. That resulted in their failure.

Kill, Maim, Burn. Kill, Maim, Burn

Finally done!!!

After 5 years of working on them here and there, I'm finally done. While some people can churn out multiple armies a year, I unfortunately am not one of them. Be it the slow painting, modelling, detail, or sheer lack of time, it takes me forever to get an army done. Hell, that was one of the key reasons we even started the escalation league last year at Gatehouse Games and this year at Legions so that we could actually complete a new army. As you can see I still didn't even get them finished until the other day but finally I'm done. If I've learned nothing else, persistance does pay off, and I truly hate the color orange (except the Dutch)

Without further ado, I give you my Flame Falcons.

The Flame Falcons
"Next to nothing is known of the Flame Falcons Chapter, for they were declared Excommunicate within a century of their inception. Initial combat trials involving the chapter were a resounding success, and they were put on active service on the Southern Rim, based on their new homeworld of Lethe. Their first engagements, with Orks and Eldar pirates promised a great future for the chapter, as they were observed to be hardy and courageous, even for Space Marines.

It was at the battle of Raffenburg's World that things began to go awry for the Flame Falcons. At the height of the battle, their largest engagement at that point, the first company were observed to spontaneously immolate at the height of the fiercest fighting against the rebel forces. Fearing witchcraft, the chapter's commander reinforced the front line and sent for an Inquistor who was accompanying the Imperial army. When it was reported by the reinforcing Space Marines that the members of the first company were not dead, but were in fact fighting with renewed savagery covered in flames to which they themselves were immune, the commander declared it a miracle, a gift from the Emperor.

The Inquisitor had a different opinion. Knowing that he could not assault the Flame Falcons immediately, he bided his time, witnessing the remainder of the chapter undergo the same change as the first company.

Upon the successful completion of the campaign, the Flame Falcons returned to Lethe in celebrant mood convinced, as they were, that their unique ability was a manifestation of the Emperor's grace. Soon after, the Grey Knights, at the Inquisition's behest assaulted Lethe, ruthlessly destroying the cursed chapter. It is thought that a small number of Flame Falcons escaped that day,but of their fate, nothing whatsoever is known." - Games Workshop Chapter Approved Annual 2004

A Successful Roadtrip

Snake Eyes Gaming packed up and headed to Baltimore to participate in Games Day 2010.
Much fun was had, many beers were imbibed and most importantly, there was gaming. 40k gaming. 3 tables worth.
When the dust had settled, the banner barely lost two rounds of tiebreakers to slip to a still quite respectable 4th place, the Flame Falcons of the Great Wolf were 2nd in fan favorite voting for Armies on Parade (or thereabouts, it was an impressive stack of dice to be sure.) and most importantly, our tables, specifically Titanicus, were judged to be the best Club Table of the event! All hail the Warboss Gubbinz, our Titan Master!
Thanks to everyone who has helped and supported us, and those that visited and gamed!

The Siege Grinds On

The epic struggle for Hive Primaris has just begun. Though the Lord of Skyfall’s 8th Company withstood the onslaught of the Traitor Legions battle lines have been redrawn. Parts of the colossal hive city lie in ruins occupied by the Iron Warriors. The timely arrival of the Deathwolf forced the Despoiler to withdraw and regroup causing a collapse in the Followers of the Ruinous Forces line.
The depredations of the Iron Warriors don’t end with the Siege of Hive Primaris however. Warsmith Anaxim oversaw the capture of the Weather Control Station from the Bad Moons. The sky fills with thunder clouds that threaten to unleash storms the likes of which have never been seen on Nekar Quintus.
In the East a mighty warboss has arisen to unify the orks into a WAAAGH!. Bad Moons, Death Skulls, and Goffs have all flocked to the warboss’s banner. With the Bay of Baraolt as well as the previously unconquered city of Tyre under his control ork submersibles now dominate the waterways of Nekar Quintus.
